Join us in the conversation as Joe Casabona empowers creators and podcasters to not only grow their shows but also unlock the full potential of their earnings. Are you ready to dive into a world of possibilities?
According to Joe: “I’m all about saving podcasters 12+ hours a week so they can focus on growing and monetizing their shows.”
Let’s dive into Joe’s story! 👇
Kosmc: Joe, could you share your journey into the podcasting and coaching realm? What inspired you to help creators and podcasters grow their shows and monetize their content?
Honestly, a lot of people started asking me questions about how I did it so well when I started. It was a little hard to put my finger on, and I’m no Serial podcast, but I started to feel the pull in that direction the more questions I got.
I was hesitant to call myself a coach at all, to be honest. You see people who do something for 6 months and then call themselves a coach – I wanted to make sure what I was doing was truly helping people.
Kosmc: What makes your course stand out?
Everyone who starts a podcast eventually says, “I should make a course on how to start a podcast.” I know I did. But I realized that’s the lowest-hanging fruit. So I decided, while I do keep that course in my library, to focus on what’s next.
In many ways, launching is a clear process (though I won’t say it’s easy). There’s a tried and blueprint that lots of podcasters, and podcast platforms, share. However, when it comes to growth, monetizing, and time management, mishandling these aspects is what often leads podcasters to quit and that’s what forces podcasters to quit.
I help people save 12+ hours per week so they don’t quit.
Kosmc: Give us the inside scoop! What’s the one podcasting hack from your course that makes other podcasters go, ‘Why didn’t I think of that’?
I think the biggest thing for most people is, when it comes to sponsorships, “just ask.” Most people know they need help with their systems by the time they get to me. But they also think sponsorships magically unlock at a certain number of downloads. I had 0 downloads when I got my first sponsor because I asked.
Kosmc: What makes top podcasts consistently captivating, keeping listeners eagerly awaiting every new episode?
I think there are 3 things: They publish predictably, so listeners know when to expect new episodes. They have a mission statement, so the host knows who they serve. And most importantly: they tell good stories. Gone are the days when you can just record a raw, unedited conversation. Just listing the first “talkies” wouldn’t cut it as good movies today, podcast content is evolving as the listenership evolves.
Kosmc: What trends or changes do you foresee in a rapidly evolving podcasting landscape, and how are you adapting to them?
The predominant trend is video. As YouTube embraces podcasting and Spotify embraces video, there’s a growing sense among podcasters that incorporating video is essential for success. While disregarding the video would be unwise!
Kosmc: For someone just starting in the podcasting world, what advice would you offer to set them on the path to success?
Define your mission statement – that is, know who you serve. Then weave stories to help those people. 78% of people listen to podcasts to learn something. Help your target audience learn.
Kosmc: When working with podcasters, how do you help them balance creative expression and meet their growth and revenue goals?
I tell them the content has to come first. You need good content to build an audience, then once you have an audience you can meet your revenue goals. This is why I like helping solopreneurs. There are multiple revenue opportunities when you can make your podcast a business asset.
Kosmc: Money matters! How do you advise podcasters to effectively monetize their content and turn their passion into a sustainable source of income?
I tell them that sponsorship isn’t the only way. They can sell products and services, leveraging the podcast to prove their expertise. They can recommend products in an affiliate marketing way, and they can create a membership where they deliver even more value for their listeners.
Kosmc: What exciting projects or developments do you have on the horizon, both in your podcasting journey and as a coach assisting others?
I want to help podcasters tell more stories, so I’m working on a few ways to do that – including a cohort program, an audit, and content around that. My biggest asset as a coach is helping people with their workflows and automation. So spending time on the right things is crucial. The way I see it, if I help podcasters spend less time on the process, they can spend more time creating great content.
